Stake-free testing method

The Fluke 1625-2 earth-ground tester measures ground-loop resistance using clamps only. Two clamps are placed around the ground rod and connected to the tester, with no auxiliary stakes required. One clamp induces a known fixed voltage and the second measures current; the tester automatically calculates ground-rod resistance. This method works only when the structure already has a grounded system. Where there is only one path to ground, as in most residential applications, the stake-free method does not provide a valid result and a fall-of-potential test must be used.
